This car is without doubt the ultimate spec Elan racecar, and probably just about the fastest in the USA. No really! This is a true 'no expense spared car' that was built to win Vintage Races but with safety in mind. A great deal of thought went into the overall 'package' with weight distribution (front to back and left to right) being a major factor in the positioning of items such as the oil tank, battery, etc. (which are both in the rear trunk). The overall weight is of course down to the minimum allowed for an Elan.

Built on a genuine 1966 Lotus Elan Series 3 Type 45 drop-head coupe, and still carrying the Lotus Cars chassis plate (number 45/6371), this car is now in full Elan 26R spec, with a recently freshened Jennings Racing of CA built, dry-sump 1600cc Lotus twin-cam, which hasn’t been on track since it was over-hauled. Fitted with twin-Weber 45 DCOEs the engine develops in excess of 180bhp. The car has a close-ration, 5-speed, Taylor in-line gearbox fitted with a transmission cooler.

The car has a lightened and re-inforced chassis fitted with an integral roll-cage, which also includes cockpit side-intrusion bars (essential on a racing Elan!). It also has chassis extensions round the rear mounted 'fuel-safe cell' fuel tank, which offers protection in the event of a rear end impact, as well as chassis extensions at the sides of the car, that run through the sills below the side intrusion bars in the doors. The chassis has been strengthened at other places in the ‘26R’ appropriate manner, including bracing across both the front, and the rear suspension units.

The body has been lightened where possible and of course beautifully prepared, as you would expect of top quality build like this. The unblemished bright yellow paintwork looks 'like new'. The body features a discreet cooling vent in the hood to let hot air out of the engine bay, a full-width low-line windshield (a shorter, narrower, more streamlined one was originally fitted but didn’t offer the driver enough protection from the wind at high speed), a fabric half-tonneau, a custom made cockpit cover behind the driver, a central top mounted vent to send cool air to the differential, and a full-width front spoiler which is worth around two seconds a lap at many circuits. For a more original looking car, this is easily removable (six Zeus fasteners and a support bracket) although, as mentioned, it makes the car slower to run without it!

The suspension is full 26R spec with Kona shocks at the rear and Spax at the front. The complete brake system is of course Tilton with front/rear balance adjustment. There is one set of spare wheels, which are in perfect condition.

Built and run and fully maintained by Bob Hildreth at Victory Racing in Colorado, this is ‘The Ultimate Lotus Elan’ that has won many races and set lap records at almost every track it has been run at throughout the USA. Fully sorted and set-up it is a sure-fire winner for anyone who is happy to beat all-comers in its class!!!

This beautifully prepared car currently located in Colorado is offered at well below the money it cost to build.
