This transmission is a great choice for drag racing applications or any application where you may want to reduce low gear ratio further than what is available in a Powerglide transmission. This unit is ideally suited for classes with tire limitations such as Outlaw 8.5, drag radial classes, and 10.5-inch tire classes.
This transmission is also available in Powerglide length for those customers wanting to make the change from a standard length Powerglide to a TH400. This option is available at an upgrade cost of $179.00, and includes a Reid Racing extension housing with roller bearing (heat treated slip yoke required).
We rate this transmission for use with 2,000+ flywheel horsepower.
This unit is also available in a Buick/Oldsmobile/Pontiac transmission case at no additional cost (part number 34-3BXHD2).
Customers with combinations approaching or exceeding 2,500 flywheel horsepower should consider an upgrade to a billet planetary gear set.
Customers with combinations consistently exceeding 2,500 flywheel horsepower will need to upgrade to our larger 1.187-inch 27-spline input shaft.
This transmission can utilize a Powerglide shifter with forward shift pattern (P-R-N-2-1). A TH400-style shifter cable mounting bracket will still be required.
We offer JW SFI-certified bolt-on bellhousing options available for this transmission at additional cost.
We also have Reid Racing SFI-certified transmission case and bellhousing options available for this transmission at additional cost.
Griner billet aluminum transbrake valve body available at additional cost.
Powdercoated transmission cases are available at additional cost.
