THIS CLUB RACER IS A 3-YEAR PROJECT TO TRANSPLANT A 2004 RX-8 RENESIS ROTARY ENGINE AND 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION INTO A 1ST GENERATION MIATA. IT HAS BEEN BUILT WITH MANY SPEC MIATA PARTS TO SIMPLIFY THE GOAL FOR A TRACK-READY CAR. THE RESULTS WERE INCREDIBLE. THE DRIVETRAIN IS ABOUT BULLIT-PROOF AND TURNED OUT MUCH MORE RESPONSIVE THAN WAS EVER EXPECTED. THE STOCK, FUEL INJECTED ROTARY IS CONTROLLED BY THE ORIGINAL ECU THAT WAS REMAPPED FOR RACE MODE BY RACING BEAT. THE ROLL CAGE IS A MIATA CAGE KIT THAT'S FOR A SPEC MIATA. THE WHEELS ARE D-FORCE, LIGHT WEIGHT SPEC MIATA UNITS WITH TOYO PROXXE R888 (VERY STICKY DOT APPROVED) SPEC MIATA TIRES. IT'S SUSPENDED BY MEGAN RACING 32-WAY ADJUSTABLE COIL-OVER SHOCKS. SWAY BARS ARE JACKSON RACING WITH HEIM ADJUSTABLE END LINKS. THE ROTARY IS COOLED BY AN ALUMINUM KOYORAD SPEC MIATA RADIATOR AND LARGE OIL COOLER. THE DUAL FANS AND ALUMINUM SHROUD IS BY MISHIMOTO. THE INTAKE IS A LARGE AEM RX-8 UNIT THAT DRAWS AIR FROM UNDER THE LOUVERED LEFT HEADLAMP DOOR. THE 3RD MEMBER IS A STOCK MIATA WITH LIMITED-SLIP AND 4:30 RATIO. AUTOMETER GUAGES MONITOR ALL OF THE VITAL SYSTEMS. A 16" ULTRASSHIELD SPEC MIATA SEAT (18" SEAT AVAILABLE) AND A G-FORCE 5-POINT HARNESS WITH CAMLOCK KEEPS YOU PLANTED DURING LAPPING SESSIONS. THE STEERING WHEEL IS A SPARCO QUICK-RELEASE UNIT.
WE'VE ONLY FINISHED THE CAR PRIOR TO 2 BRIEF SHAKE-DOWN RUNS AT 2 SEPARATE ROAD COURSES AT FIREBIRD RACEWAY, NEXT TO THE BONDURANT RACING SCHOOL.
IN THE PRO AUTOSPORTS CLUB, THE CAR WILL FALL INTO A PS-1 OR PS-2 CLASS. IT WAS WEIGHED-IN AT 2003 LBS WET AND FULL OF FUEL.
