Tired of spending hours changing valves due to difficulty removing locks from the retainers? Tim McAmis Performance Parts has the perfect solution for racers and engine builders with the new Valve Retainer Lock Tool! (Check out the video below for a quick overview and demonstration.)
High pressure seen by valve springs on engines today leads to locks becoming nearly embedded on their retainers making it extremely difficult to get them loose when changing valve springs. Current methods of removing locks can take up to an hour on a pair of cylinder heads. The TMPP Valve Retainer Lock Tool can cut this removal time to just minutes!
The two-piece device features a zinc plated heavy duty Drive Rod and a Retainer Lock Cup that works with any 1.565”O.D. and smaller valve spring. Machined from billet aluminum, the Retainer Lock Cup is designed with built-in misalignment for use in various positions and inner clearance for a valve stem and lash cap.
To use the Valve Spring Retainer Lock Tool, simply fill the cylinder with air to hold the valve tight and position the Retainer Lock Cup over the retainer. Place the misalignment Drive Rod onto the Retainer Lock Cup and strike the Drive Rod with a hammer. After one or two strikes, you should hear a change in pitch and the seal around the retainer will now be loose. (Check out the video below for a quick demonstration.)
