For Sale: NEW 2002 ARO 246 4x4 7 passanger suv 2.3 Ford
It cost a lot of money to get this into the country and it was not allowed to have a drive train in it to pass through customs. There for it has never had a title or a drive train in it. It will come will a bill of sale. In my state you just need a BoS with proof of where the other parts came from and the state will issue a title after an inspection. Most states have a similar procedure.
This is an unfinished project with what I believe to be 90+% of everything that will be needed to finish it.
The motor is out of a 96 (I think) Ranger I parted out. Have copy of title around here somewhere. It is a dual plug head 2.3 4 banger. I replaced all the seals in it, new gates timing belt and tension-er, water pump, plugs, wires, and t-stat. Might be forgetting something else. None of these parts have been used/started since I installed them last year. The motor ran great before I did all the work. Figured since it was out I went through it. I have the harness, computer, and dash out of the donor truck that goes with it. I will be sending a BJs off road aluminum FSJ radiator with it.
The transmission and transfer case are out of a late 80s Ranger. It is a 4 speed with a manual floor shift 2-4hi-N-4lo case.
The stock set up is solid rear and IFS front. this unit did not have a front diff with it but I had one out of my old 244. I started to fab it in and noticed the ball joint boots has rotted out. I am sure if I looked I would have found some new ones to make work but eventually I would need to replace them when they wear out and the brakes. I decided to use my old 84' Wagoneer axles instead since I would be able to source parts if I ever needed them. I replaced all the brakes on the front Dana 44 and MAC 20 rear shortly before I removed them. They have less then 2000 miles on them. But they did get left in the dirt for a short while. I have an extra set of new rotors (and pads I think) that will go with the sale they just have surface rust on the rotors. The axles have the stock 3:31 ratios. The front has had superwinch manual locking hubs installed when I did the brakes and the spider gears welded together.
The axles come with Waggy 3.5" lift springs plus I think I have the stock saggy ones around here.
I have not started the SAS swap minus taking the stock gear box and rods out of the ARO. It will come with the stock ARO box, the Waggy box, and a Ford box that was in my old 244.
The front seats are worn as the 246 did not come with any and I had to put in the ones out of my 244. It is plumbed for AC just need a compressor put on the motor and lines made up. This has no installed seat belts. it has 2 of the 3 provisions to mount the front belts (that I have) but they never installed the captive nut in the B pillars. The rears never had a OE seat belt option. I was going to get some used ones out of a yard and put them in for the kids.
It comes with some almost full tread Kumho 33-12.5-R15 MT tires on the stock Waggy alloys. They have less then 1500 miles on them but have seen a few days of hard wheeling on them so they do have some cuts and scrapes on them.
The 1998-2006 units were face lifted with all the fiberglass bubble trim and new front grill/lights. I personally hate it and removed most of it. I like the look prior to them bubblizing it. It has the hood off my 244 and comes with the front grill/light stuff so you can have the old look if wanted.
I have more photos if you want them.
