1950 Mercury Custom In the world of lead sleds and stretched out customs the Mercury is king. The long dramatic body lines from stock create a look that would have any car builder slobbering and coming up with ideas. This 50 Mercury is one awesome custom that gets a TON of attention. The body was entirely customized by Ken Wakefield where he chopped, channeled, decked, frenched, molded, nosed, and louvered in all the right places giving birth to this beautiful machine. The car is custom throughout from front to rear. It drives extremely well and gets a ton of attention wherever it goes. When this classic rolls into the show, crowds form. The body is solid and topped in a show quality Black paint that is then accented with some of the coolest flames and pinstriping around. These were laid down by Mitch Kim and the flames veer off to each side of the hood to expose the louvers and continue even onto the roof! Flames always get attention and look great on street rods but these will have no problem standing out among the rest. All of the chrome on the car has a great finish with custom 52 Buick stainless trim accenting the side. Had the Ford builders seen this trim in place you can bet that would have incorporated it in because it truly looks like it should be there from original. The front "tooth" grill is from a 52 Desoto and sits between custom frenched 52 Buick headlights. This isn't a hodgepodge of strange customizations like you see on some of these cars but a well thought out and designed classic where everything fits. The car has a sleek stance with fender skirts in rear and rides on vintage steel wheels with 1957 Cadillac hubcaps and wide white wall radial tires. Getting this classic moving is a 383 stroker motor that runs very well. These motors are known for there torque and it has no problem moving this big piece of steel down the road. Edelbrock valve covers are in place with a old school style Cadillac air cleaner. A 700R4 automatic with overdrive transmission is in place and shifts smoothly sending power back to the 4:10 rear end. An after market GM front clip has been added incorporating disc brakes which are power assisted. In addition to the power brakes the car is fully loaded with power steering, power windows, power doors, and a power trunk. The interior is completed in Black with small Purple accents on the seat. It is done in a cloth/vinyl combo that looks great. The Cadillac front bench seat and TBird rear seat are comfortable and allow plenty of leg room. The dash utilizes the original style trim but has been refitted with all Dakota Digital gauges. Below the dash a center section has been added to house the very high end Alpine CVA1000 stereo. Everything on this car is show quality and it needs nothing. Pull into a show with this car and you will see just how popular it is! Cruise in a super cool Mercury for $52,500.00!
