For Sale: 1972 Fiat 124
One automotive engineer owner – purchased new from a Fiat dealer in Royal Oak, MI in June or July, 1972.
Original owner’s documentation included.
Current shown mileage – 110,435. Some miles have been accrued while towing on a dolly. Also, some miles were put on the car while the odometer was not functioning. This mileage is estimated to be within 2,000 miles of the actual mileage on the car. Engines have different mileages.
The car was Ziebarted when new. The car has been stored in winter and has all its original body panels except the hood and deck lid. These panels were damaged in a light hail storm and were replaced. The originals are available as spares with the car. There is no serious rust on the body. Areas prone to moisture entrapment have been kept oiled to prevent moisture from reaching the steel.
Original color – Navy Blue with Tan Interior and Black Top
Current color – Medium blue metallic with a light amount of gold fleck in the clear coat. Painted pin stripes along the sides and on the hood center in gold and red. Paint is starting to bubble in some places and will need a repaint to look really good. These are not rust bubbles, but just small round lifted areas in the paint.
The car is a fully trimmed street car that can be driven daily. It has all its factory equipment, including the full interior, heater, and an aftermarket radio. The interior is all original with no cuts, tears, or significant wear on any surfaces. The seats have been covered with sheepskin covers since about 1985.
The top has been on the car for over 20 years. It is faded but in good condition with no wear, chafing, or tears. It seals well and does not leak. The rear window is clear with no discoloration or cloudiness.
This car has been continually and tastefully upgraded and modified since new. The following changes have been made:
Marchal H4 halogen replacement headlamps
Penetrator driving lamps mounted flush in the grille with a control to operate them
independently or combined with the high beam. These lamps provide safe night illumination up to, and beyond, the maximum speed of the car. They also give the car the look of some of the Ferraris of the period.

Much miscellaneous (From two cars that were scrapped)
The car does not currently have an engine installed. The 2000 cc engine could be installed and used without too much effort. The 1800 cc engine was last in the car. It was smoking slightly when removed. One inlet port was showing oil. Perhaps the valve guide seal was leaking. Other than that, it ran well. The original 1600 engine needs to have the crankshaft finished and the engine needs assembly to be used.
The header and exhaust system need work to be ready for use. The header will need some welding of small cracks. The rear mufflers have rust holes and will need replacing.
The front suspension is currently off the car. The parts have been modified and painted and just need reassembly.
The car is sitting on a single axle open trailer that is included in the sale. As far as I know it is British built and is suitable for carrying light cars. The Fiat fits well and trails well but does not have the weight of the engine at present.
