For Sale: 468 BIG BLOCK CHEVY BBC 597HP 595LBS/FT TORQU
We were commissioned to build this cost conscious 468 BB Chevy for the sole purpose of testing Edelbrock’s entry level 290 cc port ‘E’ heads for material for David Vizards Volume II Big Block Chevy book (Volume I is already out and we have signed copies at $35.00 you will see the given photos in Davids soon to be released second BBC book). The head testing went along with a cam compatibility program. The result was we found what these heads liked and the results were really good and seemingly far better than even Edelbrock’s engineers thought possible. Look around and you will not find too many (if any) engines with this combination of compression and components that puts out such a useable and massive amount of power and torque.
If you are familiar with what really goes into building an engine it is more than apparent that this is an exceptional piece which for this price simply can not be beaten.
With a pump gas 87 octane friendly 9.6:1 compression this 468 produces an output both in terms of torque and hp that closely approaches and exceeds some of the 496 strokers out there on the market. Cranking out 595 lbs-ft of torque and 598 hp with a rock steady 700 rpm idle and a very strong torque curve that starts right off idle. With as much low end torque as it makes it would work as a truck motor and with almost 600 hp it would also make a killer street strip application.
The bottom end is a 454 .060'' over forged icon pistons, detailed rods equipped with ARP bolts and a 4 inch stroke crank fully prepped and internally balanced in our crank department and held in place by ARP main studs. The cam is a nitride hardened flat tappet that has been custom specced especially for this combination by David Vizard and ground by Lunati. It produces 0.595'' intake lift and 0.561'' exhaust. We chose quality Johnson lifters and Comp Cams pushrods. Completing a tidy valve train is Crane Cams Gold Race rocker arms. Heads are out of the box Edelebrock E street heads which are paired with the tried and proven Victor Jr intake manifold which has been port matched. All of our testing and these power figures are based on using the Holley 950 Ultra HP. At the customers request we will lower the price by $250.00 and fit the engine with a Quick Fuel Technologies 880cfm vacuum secondaries carb, still a nice responsive piece this will however lower power figures by around 12HP.
Cost of this combination is $7,900.00 with 950 Holley Ultra Hp or $7,650.00 with QFT 880CFM. I do not expect it to hang around long at this price.
