For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a beautiful 1971 Chevrolet Camaro RS Split Bumper painted in Hugger Orange. This is a monster compared to an original '71. First things first, its powered by a solid roller 468 big block topped off with a Weiand 6-71 blower. Yeah, its bad. Pump gas friendly and gobs of power. But it's not a race car, this was built with cruising in mind and cruise it does. It is very well mannered and ready to go right off of idle. Shifting the Turbo 400 transmission is accomplished with a Reverse Manual Valve Body which works great. The narrowed rear end is a Ford 9" housing 4.56 gears and 31 spline Strange Axles. Combined with the tall tires, this equates to around 2,900 RPM while cruising at 60 mph. Keeping this fire breathing dragon cool is a giant aluminum radiator, twin electric cooling fans and a new water pump. Power front disc brakes and Power steering certainly add to the ease of enjoyment. Inside are black leather bucket seats, center console, AM/FM radio with CD player and all of the important gauges to keep an eye on the engine including a GPS speedometer.
The Camaro was originally restored in 2008. Recently it has been fitted with new Billet Specialty wheels, Mickey Thompson Street Radials, driver and passenger door windows, gauges, center console, 15 gallon fuel cell, pump and regulator. It was also fitted with new tubular upper and lower control arms, master cylinder and brake booster headers and full exhaust. The list goes on. The car was awarded 2015 Super Chevy class winner. With only 2,168 miles on the build, this car has plenty of fun to be had by a new owner.
