1 OF ONLY 6,360 1982 Camaro Z28 Pace Car replicas built!
For the third time the Chevrolet Camaro would return to pace the
World’s greatest motor sports event - the 66th Indianapolis 500. The 1982 Camaro Z28 was the first year of the newly-redesigned body style now known as the third-generation. At long last, the famous Z28 legend comes to Indy - an unbelievable first time in Z28's long race history. From Z/28's debut for the press at Riverside International Raceway on November 26, 1966, to the first generation Penske/Donahue Trans Am race cars; from race car to factory stock to the illustrious Pace Car, everyone talked about the Z28 Camaro. The Indy 500 Pace Car for 1982 was the Z28 sport coupe which included sport mirrors, rear spoiler, instrumentation, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and other specifications!
This car was part of the Bill McDonald classic car collection. Bill McDonald was the proprietor of McDonald Chevrolet located in Nashville, Indiana. He was a lifetime member of the Indianapolis 500 organizing committee and attended the greatest spectacle in auto racing for the 70th time in May of 2013 from his favorite seat in box 13, row X, seat 1. His dealership closed in 2008 and he passed in 2013. His collection of classic vehicles was sold individually including this special car!
This car was always stored inside a climate controlled facility and maintained over the last 32 years!
The original door protectors, license plate bag with screws, decal kit boxes and McDonald Chevrolet detail box with rag is also included. McDonald Chevrolet is stamped on the back of the box!
The original factory plastic is still on the seats. The driver’s side was removed and put back on but the passenger side has never been taken off. It also has the original factory carpet protection material that is still connected to the carpet!
***The original window sticker and owner’s manuals were misplaced***
From what I’ve researched this vehicle is 100% original including what I believe the original oil filter. I purchased the car from a private collector. I don’t believe the car had ever been washed prior me receiving it so my detailers spent a full day detailing it from top to bottom!
The exterior body is in great original condition and virtually flawless with only a few minor imperfections. The paint has recently been buffed to a show quality shine and the decals are all intact. The glass is perfect and it has the original plastic headlight covers that are currently installed. This is hands down the overall best exterior condition third generation Camaro I’ve ever owned or seen!
The car sits on the original 15” Pace Car edition wheels with the original Goodyear Eagle GT 215-65-15 tires. The wheels and tires are like new!
The interior is in amazing condition and truly unbelievable for a 32 year car. It still retains that new car smell. As I mentioned above the original factory plastic is still on the front seats. The driver’s side was removed and put back on but the passenger side has never been taken off. It also has the original factory carpet protection material that is still connected to the carpet. Everything in the interior works as it should including all the lights, gauges, radio, power windows, etc. There are NO lights on!
The trunk compartment is also in great original condition with no fading like a lot of third generation Camaros. It has the original T-top bag secured with hooks!
The engine compartment is highly detailed and home to the most desirable Crossfire EFI 5.0.L V8 engine which was code LU5. This optional engine setup was the most desirable package because it produced the highest horsepower rating which was 165HP. Most of 1982 Camaro Pace Cars advertised for sale have the LG4 which is the carbureted setup rated at 145HP. All of the original factory chalk marks and stickers are still intact. The oil is very clean but since the car wasn’t driven I believe that the oil filter is original. This engine starts and runs like a new car as it should. It was always maintained and has no signs of any issues. I personally have driven this car about 1 mile and everything worked and felt great!
***The only thing I replaced was the hood insulation and pumps. The insulation was deaerating due to age and the pumps weren’t holding up the hood anymore which is very common with these cars***
The undercarriage is also highly detailed and in great original condition for a 32 year old car. All of the original factory chalk marks and stickers are still intact. I fully inspected everything such as the transmission, rear end, gas tank, suspension, and brakes and couldn’t find any issues!
MS CLASSIC CARS has completed a full classic car detail valued at $400.00!
***THE LIMITED PRODUCTION ALL ORIGINAL SUN STAR 1:18 DIE CAST 1982 CHEVROLET CAMARO PACE CAR (#1923) IN THE PHOTOS BELOW IS INCLUDED WITH THE SALE***
“I grew up with third generation Camaros and I’m a true enthusiast. As my website indicates I’ve owned many beautiful low mileage third generation Camaros that have sold for strong values including the 1985 Camaro Iroc-Z Live Aid Signature car I sold at Barrett Jackson for $46,200 in 2010. In all of my years of looking at third generation Camaros I’ve personally only seen one Iroc Z with this kind of mileage. Not only is this car 1 of only 6,360 built but it has 7 miles! Yes, only 7 miles and I put on 1 mile unloading it off the trailer and taking it down the street for photos. This car has great history coming from the Bill McDonald classic car collection and is in truly spectacular original condition especially considering its 32 years old. Sometimes classic cars with low mileage have a lot of issues such as rust, oxidation, leaks, smells, dash lights on, etc. This car doesn’t have any of those issues because it was maintained over the last 32 years by the Chevrolet dealership Bill owned. This car was treated like one of his babies. It still has the factory original plastic on the seats and factory original material on the floors for crying out loud! If you’re a Camaro enthusiast who’s looking to add a vehicle to your collection or someone who wants to make a good investment for the future this is a golden opportunity that might not come around again. I would challenge anyone to find a comparable car. Get it before someone else does!”
